The Blessing of Sunday School teaching me the love of God
By Evadne Grant

Blessings to the Lighthouse Sisters.

John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

In life people show love in many different ways, but the Lord is greater. I neve went to church at a young age, but in Sunday School I learned of many Scriptures such as John 3:16-17, Matthew 5:1-12, Psalm 121, and many more. I started attending Sunday School at a street corner. That is where I was told about God’s love and the basics about the Creator of the Universe and the light of the world! We were taught to put our trust in God and build a relationship with him. As God said, “suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.” (Mark 10:14) That is an example of how much he would be a shelter in the time of the storm. He is compassionate to us because he looks beyond our faults and sees our needs. In his word he says that we should look to the “hills from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121: 1-2) He shows us we can take our eyes off of everything else and focus on giving God the praise.

Sunday School is a big opportunity for the most preaching and teaching because that is where the focus on God gives children courage and strength every day. You learn about God’s perfect love and his gift to the world to save us. We can be saved by making that decision to accept what God has done for us in Christ Jesus.

In Galatians 5:22 we learned a guideline that starts with love, but sometimes we were to suffer but in our suffering he never leaves us. He tells us in his word we must cast all our burdens on him. We have a great assurance that he is always there anytime. We need him and he makes everything possible. We have to believe and let the Holy Spirit guide us in all truth.

Love is not just a mark for being a Christian, but a BIRTHMARK for our love of God first.

Let us pray for each other. We all have different trials and tribulations, and only God has the answers. So thanks to the teachers for showing us these answers. Pray that God will continue to use them. Let’s pray the Holy Spirit anoints them. Let us pray and support them, and serve them too.

Sunday School helps, all of us (not just the children), to grow a stronger relationship with God each day. We have to realize the importance, the value, of this. God gave his Son to take our sin so we may have eternal life. He has never gone back on his promise. As the well-known song says, “Love lifted me.” Let us come near to God and he will come near to us so we can feel the greatness of his promise.
